Some of us will add peanut butter to any food we can, and happily add it in our drinks too. Because, quite simply, there is never not a good a time to have peanut butter!
It seems our unstoppable love for peanut butter knows no bounds. There are enough peanuts in one acre to make 30,000 peanut butter sandwiches, and the amount of peanut butter eaten in a year could wrap the earth in a ribbon of 18-ounce peanut butter jars one and-a-third times.
Just to give you the scale of how much peanut butter is loved around the world, and in particular America, the world’s largest peanut butter factory churns out 250,000 jars every day. That’s just one factory!
It’s humbling, but, for us, we’re proud to be practised artisans with a hands-on approach in our little Yorkshire factory. That way we’re able to add that extra magical ingredient of passion into our product. It paves the way for us to add a little more innovation to the usual creamy or crunchy choices of peanut butter, and we’ve created a unique texture and flavour with our deep-roasted, smunchy Proper Nutty peanut butter (you can try some too!)
Peanut butter actually dates back to Aztec times. They mashed roasted peanuts into a paste, somewhat different from what we know of as peanut butter today. But the actual invention of peanut butter, its process of manufacture and the machinery used to make it, started in 1895 and became fully commercial by 1932. It was made popular for sustenance during the two world wars. And it has gone on to become a staple in most people’s homes, giving birth to millions of peanut butter fanatics, with countless websites dedicate to passion for the humble peanut made good.
There are so many nutritional facts about peanuts – being naturally cholesterol-free; packed with protein, good fats and fibre, and containing over thirty essential nutrients and phytonutrients.
But perhaps the one we love most is the story that there is enough mental stimulation in one peanut to produce 30 minutes of serious thinking! Seriously! It may or may not be true but we love this idea that it prevents ‘brain fatigue.’ No wonder we keep conjuring up different uses for our Proper Nutty peanut butter – the little jar with a big heart!
We invite you to join the nutty circle with Proper Nutty.
